03 / DEVICE SHARING

One device.
Your own conversations.

Share a device with another Caterm account. Each person starts independent Codex or Claude conversations.

Share a device

  1. Open your device and click Share beside Settings.
  2. Generate a sharing link, copy it and send it to the recipient. Each link can be accepted by one account and expires in one day.
  3. The recipient opens the link, signs in or creates an account with Google or email and password, verifies their email if needed, then clicks Accept sharing. Signing in alone does not grant access.

Device and sharing limits

Owned and accepted shared devices both count toward your total: 2 on Free, 10 on Pro. Acceptance requires an available slot. Free owners can share each device with 1 member, Pro owners with 5. Pending links reserve sharing slots. Downgrading preserves records and history while excess access is paused.

What members can use

Sharing includes files, terminal, desktop, agents and device information already enabled locally. Device opt-outs, configured file roots and operating-system permissions still apply. There are no separate per-member capability settings.

Independent conversations

Each user creates their own chats and native sessions. Messages, history, approvals, activity and stop controls are private to the chat creator. The device owner cannot read a member's chats through Caterm, and sharing a device does not share existing conversations.

A shared machine

Agents use the device's local login and OS user. Files, credentials, provider quota and machine resources are shared. Independent conversations do not isolate the underlying filesystem; edits to the same project can conflict. Desktop access allows one active session at a time.

Manage access

The Share window shows pending links; revoke a link there to prevent acceptance. Open the device’s Settings and find Access to view people with access and revoke a member’s access. A used link cannot restore revoked access; generate a new invitation to share again.

Only the owner can manage sharing, rename, delete, revoke or reconnect the device, or replace its credentials. Revoke access stops that member's sessions without disconnecting the device or stopping another user's chats and terminals. Offline agent cancellation is delivered when the device reconnects.

Recipients can choose Leave shared device to end their access and free their device slot. A new invitation is required to rejoin.
